THE nights are drawing in; Poldark has finished its latest series and with Strictly Come Dancing just around the corner, for Westbury Town Council’s events coordinator, Verity Bartlett, that means only one thing – Christmas is well and truly on its way.
This year the Christmas in Westbury event will be on Saturday 2nd December starting at the slightly later time of 11am and running through until 4pm. There will be the usual mix of Christmas festivities with dancing, walkabout acts, balloon magic, and of course Santa will be in his Grotto built for him last year by the gang at Westbury Shed.
Verity said, “We have some exciting new attractions planned for the Christmas event this year, but there will still be the traditional street fayre. We’ve already had a number of stallholders send us their application forms, but there is still space and we’re especially keen to hear from food retailers as we only have one or two food spaces left. Pitches for non-food stall holders are 3m x 3m. For further details and an application form, contact Verity Bartlett at verity. bartlett@westburytown council.gov.uk.
“The lights switch-on takes a more traditional focus this year and moves to the Market Place and there will be something different in the build-up to the switch-on too. The town council is delighted to welcome former X Factor contestant, speed painter Dave Sharp, who will create two paintings on stage before your very eyes – he uses both hands on a single canvas! Take a sneak preview of Dave’s work at www. davesharpsart .com/.
“Following the ann-ouncement of our competition winners, the crowd can join in with the digital countdown to the switch-on at 6.30pm provided by Dynamic Laser Shows Southwest.
“The town council is also still looking for more people to send their events in for inclusion in this year’s Christmas guide (a pull-out centre spread in the White Horse News).
“Whether it’s a Christmas Church service, fete, quiz or mulled wine and carols, if you’d like it included in the guide, we’d love to hear from you. Entries must be with Verity by Friday 20th October. (Unfortunately, due to proofreading and printing deadlines, we are unable to accept any amendments to event listings after Friday 3rd November.)
For an event listing application form please email verity. bartlett@westburytowncouncil.gov.uk or call the town council offices on 01373 822232.
