BRATTON Church Institute opened its well-loved doors to the local community on Saturday 28th January as part of the week-long national celebration of village halls.
The organisers of the event have described it as a great success as, through the generosity of those that attended, over £300 was raised to go towards the fund for the new roof and ten large bags of much-needed toiletry items were donated to the Warminster food bank.
On offer was a selection of tasty homemade soups, plenty of cake and coffee for people to get stuck into and information about the various local groups and events that use the building and as its role as a warm place for people to get together and catch up.
The caretaker for the church hall, Joan Martin, said, “Thank you to everyone that attended, and a big thank you to those that either donated items for the food bank or were kind enough to donate towards our new roof.
“We displayed all that goes on in the hall; from our baby group, to our bee keepers, and many others! The soup and crusty bread combo went down well, and so did the cakes. Gill, our chairperson, will be taking over ten large bags of toiletries to Warminster food bank soon that were so generously given by our visitors.”
