WESTBURY Area Board awarded almost £12,000 of grants to community projects at their meeting on Thursday 6th February.
The Bratton Jubilee Hall management committee was awarded £5,000 for new flooring to replace the current floor that was fitted in 2002 that is becoming hazardous to the many users of the hall.
Dilton Marsh Parish Council was awarded £2,100 to purchase a speed indicator device. Dilton Marsh has an active Community Speed Watch team who hope to overcome the speeding issues through the village.
Westbury Parochial Church Council, known better as All Saints Church in Westbury, was awarded £1337.50 to conduct craft workshops to invite people to find out more about the grade 1 listed building and alleviate loneliness for the elderly.
Westbury Heritage Society was awarded £991 towards their imminent move from their High Street location to the first floor of the library. They will use the money to buy new cabinets to display historic items from the town.
The Laverton Institute was awarded £755 towards their new ‘Abraham’s Kitchen’ scheme, a community meals initiative run by volunteers and staff at Westbury Town Council.
The BA13+ Community Area Partnership was awarded £350.11 to purchase catering equipment for the community to use. There are many kitchen facilties across the town for community use, but none come with equipment. Therefore these items can be shared around the town to those wanting to host their own events.
Finally, Westbury Town Council was awarded £1,454 to purchase a new defibrillator to be located on the outside of Westbury’s Methodist Church on Station Road to cater for Grassacres Hall, the park and the new houses in the area.
