A FUNDRAISING campaign to help a family whose Westbury Leigh house was damaged by a fire last month has raised £3,000.
Shortly after the fire, an online campaign raised £1,500 for Steve Seals and his partner Kirsty Sisson and their family who lived in the house, and items of furniture were donated.
A fundraising event was also held at local pub/restaurant, The Hollies Inn, who matched the £1,500, bringing the total to £3,000 raised for the family.
Owner of The Hollies, Charlie Dale-Staples said, “It was a really good evening and everyone had a brilliant night. We had around 85 people come along, which I didn’t expect.
“The prizes for the auction which were donated by local people were excellent. They ranged from beauty treatments to a 7-night stay in Nepal, which was organised by Rab Lundie.
“We wanted to do something to support the family as they have been regulars in the pub for a few years now and always get involved with events and charity fundraisers which help other people.
“They came along towards the end and I think they were quite overwhelmed by it all.”
The first floor and roof of the property were destroyed in the blaze which was tackled by over 25 firefighters from nearby fire stations.
Luckily no-one was injured in the fire, but the house is too damaged for the family to go back and salvage their property.
“They have enough money and furniture to be able to set up in a new home once they find somewhere, which is great,” added Charlie.
