A Christmas fundraiser in Westbury has raised more than £2,000 for a young boy living with a rare genetic condition.
Drae’s Christmas Wish took place on Saturday at Players on the West Wilts Trading Estate and brought together families, local businesses and performers for a full day of festive entertainment.
The event raised £2,027, with Drae’s family praising the amazing support from the local community.
“The day was absolutely incredible, the support from the community was amazing,” said Drae’s mum Rachel Mead. “We had 40 market stalls, Father Christmas in his grotto with his elf, an appearance from Bluey, live music all day and evening, including from the ALW dance group, donkeys, street food and more.
“The only shame was Drae couldn’t be here with us; he’s been very poorly in hospital over the last few days but he’s OK today; still very poorly but heading in the right direction.”
The fundraiser is part of an ongoing campaign to support three-year-old Drae, who was born with TBCK syndrome. The rare, life-limiting condition affects his brain and nervous system and means he cannot sit, walk or support his head. He also lives with epilepsy, scoliosis and severe muscle weakness.
Funds raised are being used to help adapt the family home and provide specialist equipment and experiences to support his care and wellbeing.
The Christmas event follows a series of successful community-led fundraisers, including a recent prize bingo night which raised more than £1,100, a ‘spooktacular’ Halloween party and an auction of a guitar signed by Adam Ant.
