WESTBURY branch of the Royal British Legion has confirmed that £3,766.90 was raised through Poppy Appeal donations in Westbury. The local branch is now looking for an organiser to take over this year’s appeal.
Last year’s funds were raised through Poppy Appeal donations in November in supermarkets, pubs and outlets in the town, as well as through local community groups purchasing wreaths for the Remembrance Service.
The RBL’s community fundraiser for Wiltshire, Peter Saunders, has thanked the local community for their generosity and continued support.
He said, “A massive thank you to Westbury! The town has really come together in tough times to show just how generous they can be. The town has a rich association with the armed forces, and it has always shown its support whenever called upon.
“Times are hard for everyone at the moment, so every penny is appreciated. As a charity ourselves, we are supporting people that are struggling due to the cost-of-living crisis, so we are trying to do our bit to help combat that.”
The Warminster RBL group took over the Poppy Appeal collections in both towns this year following a lack of volunteers in Westbury, but the RBL have now said that they are on the look-out for someone to take on this task this November.
Peter said “We are asking for someone to step up and take on the role of Poppy Appeal organiser; if this is something that interests you, please do get in contact with me.”
