A TOWN councillor wants Westbury to consider reinstating a war memorial in the Market Place.
Councillor Cuthbert-Murray is calling on Westbury Town Council to run a public consultation to find out if residents would back the idea.
Cllr Cuthbert-Murray originally put the idea forward last year, but the town council decided not to pursue it. However, after a six month gap, he is allowed to put the idea back on the agenda and it will be considered at a meeting next month.
Cllr Cuthbert-Murray envisions that a memorial would be a replica of the one that was originally positioned in front of the old Town Hall in the Market Place, and would be in addition to the war memorial in Edward Street.
The memorial was built in the 1920s, but was taken down in the 1970s with a new memorial positioned in Edward Street.
Cllr Cuthbert-Murray said, “It was cleared to make way for a few parking spaces. It would be nice to have it back, and restore some of Westbury’s heritage.”
