E J Crafts in Maristow Street is attempting to break a Guinness world record for the longest knitted scarf, trying to beat 33.74miles.
The current longest scarf knitted by a team measures 54.29 km (33.74 miles). It was knitted by the volunteers, friends and supporters of Ty Hafan – The Children’s Hospice in Wales. Work started in May 2002 and the scarf was measured at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, UK on 23 June 2005.
Emma Symonds of E J Crafts Westbury said, “We need your help at attempting to break a Guinness World Record! We can beat the current record in a year. You will need size 4 needles and DK wool. Cast on 50 stitches and each piece needs to be 20″ or roughly 134 rows in stocking stitch. It is perfect for using up all your odds and ends as it can be any colour you want. It can be done in between projects.
“Once the pieces are done you can pop them in the shop. Or post them to the shop, 18 Maristow Street, I will also put updates on my Facebook page.
“If you want to join in but do not know how to knit, E J Crafts can offer knitting lessons. 1-1 or in group setting.”
