DILTON Marsh WI had a talk from Wiltshire Scrapstore at its recent meeting, learning about recycling and education given by the environmental charity.
A delightful lady, Margaret Hiscock from the Wiltshire Scrapstore in Lacock brought her skills and knowledge to the June meeting. Situated at Bowden Hill the Scrapstore is an environmental charity which collects resources for creative projects that would otherwise end up as waste. Materials are donated by local businesses and volunteers then help to provide services such as creative workshops for schools, children, adults, community groups, team building, play pods and parties, anything with a creative aim.
Their patron is children’s author Neil Griffiths who works alongside the team with his wonderful writing skills. Their warehouse was opened by the Duchess of Cornwall and they have won an award for employment and volunteer opportunities. On site is a café where after exploring you can take refreshments and there is also a shop in Lacock where you can browse.
After Margaret’s talk she gave members the task of making a card from various scraps she provided with expert guidance. Great applause followed as many thanks were given. President Alison Irving reminded the group that next month’s meeting would be the annual garden party at a member’s home.
On Saturday 11th June the WI served lunches in the hall for village day, which was a resounding success as the hungry public poured through our doors!
