THE White Horse Day Centre, which provides a hot meal and friendship for over 65s in Westbury, is asking for donations to keep the service going. The centre is under threat of closure following funding cuts.
Sue Ezra, who runs the centre said, “The White Horse Day Centre is trying to raise funds to cover the running costs and staff wages as there is no certainty that we will receive any grant funding from Wiltshire Council, due to the funding cuts being passed on to local councils by the Government.
“It is extremely difficult for us to get grant funding as meeting the criteria is nigh on impossible! Most grant funding is aimed at young people and community projects and while we are sometimes successful in our grant applications for activities or equipment, we have been unlucky when it comes to running costs etc.
“We have undertaken various fundraising projects ourselves, but we have not been able to get the support we need, and this is why I have set up the “Just Giving” page with the backing of our committee.
“If the day centre closed, our members would feel the loss greatly as they would not have a safe and friendly place to meet, have a three -course meal, and participate in various activities on offer.
“We have tried very hard to combat social isolation in our older population and if we lost the day centre due to lack of funding, we would be going backwards, not forward! Any donation, no matter how small will be gratefully received, so if you can help, please give.”
