WESTBURY volunteers responded to the call to help tidy up the town in a litter pick, which took place on Saturday 19th September.
As part of the Great British ‘Spring’ Clean, the event would have taken place in March, but was re-scheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
With social distancing measures in place, various groups carried out their own litter picks around the town. Approximately 21 people took part and it is hoped that a similar event could be held in the future.
Mayor of Westbury, cllr Mike Sutton, said, “We met outside the Methodist church in Station Road and there were 21 volunteers comprising councillors, Rotary members and general public. Volunteers selected their own area to pick and Grassacres Park was an obvious choice for a few it being next door.
“A small group decided to clear weeds and debris in the flower beds opposite the library and they collected three bags of agricultural waste.
“In total 21 bags of litter and waste was collected, which was a credit to all present. One or two volunteers commented that they could not fill a complete bag and rather than be disappointed we long for the day when we assemble and can find no litter at all. My sincere thanks and gratitude to all those who took part.”
