Reflection and planning was the basis of the April meeting. It was reported that our Mothers’ Day gift to our members in the poorer parts of Africa was ‘parenting skills’ and members were thanked for their generosity.
A box placed at Holy Trinity for the Refuge was continuing to be filled with much needed dry food and cleaning materials.
Mrs Eunice Stride stated the annual ‘Big Lunch’ held at Fairfield Farm College Café would take place on May 19th. Tickets available from either the college or a member of Mothers’ Union.
It was agreed that the Mothers’ Day service at Holy Trinity, which explained much of our work overseas, was a success and maybe would be expanded next year to include even more of our links abroad. At a national and international level Mothers’ Union resources members and provides funding such as the Literacy and Financial Education Programme and Loving for Life. It is a network of 3.6 million people across the world each serving their local community to encourage a better quality of life for all and an end to poverty.
At a local level groups fundraise and run individual projects to meet specific local needs.
At the end of our meeting we took a rest to enjoy the reading of a poem by a much loved deceased member Rosemary Smith entitled ‘Distant View of my Church.’
