The annual Dilton Marsh Scarecrow Trail has been described by organisers as a great success as over £500 was raised from the event to support trip for pupils at Dilton Marsh Primary School.
25 scarecrows were entered, and the overall winner was the Groot scarecrow.
The event was organised by the Friends of Dilton Marsh School (FODS) who say, “The annual scarecrow trail and cream teas were a brilliant success this year. Families, staff and the surrounding community came out in support of the school once again. Thank you to you all!
“There were 25 scarecrows entered under the theme of heroes and villains (and a wonderful Matilda and Mrs Trunchbull scarecrow, which was a bonus extra discovered en route). The votes were counted the following week and Groot was declared the winning scarecrow; congratulations to the Durham family!
“During the trail, villagers added Pokémon pictures to their windows and scarecrows in memory of Lennix, who loved the scarecrow trail. A wonderful tribute to a much loved, and missed, member of Dilton Marsh Primary School.
“The weather was perfect and the sun shone for us, despite Sunday’s rainy forecast, making it a very enjoyable couple of days out. The cream teas, cakes, biscuits (and ice pops) were delicious and enjoyed by all on the playground, whilst the children played on the grass.
“Over £500 was raised from the trail with the funds helping to reduce the cost of things like school trips for families. A recent trip to Stonehenge cost families £5 per child because FODS was able to subsidise the remaining cost. And that is all thanks to the generous donations made by those who support events like this trail.
“Thank you to Dilton Marsh and the surround communities, once again, for your support and generosity.”
