EDINGTON Priory Church was sold out on Saturday 23rd March for Edington Arts’ tenth anniversary concert.
Those who attended the event saw a performance of Bach’s St John Passion by world-class musicians, the Oxford Bach Soloists, with international soloists Mark Padmore, Florian Störtz and Ben Davies, conducted by Tom Hammond-Davies.
The performance, attended also by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sarah Troughton, was a chance to hear the St John Passion on the 300th anniversary of its composition, played and sung at the highest level.
“The result was an evening of astonishing power, drama and high emotion,” said Anne Curtis from Edington Arts. “Audience members, some of whom had travelled half across the country to attend the concert, commented that it was ‘exquisite in every detail’, ‘moving, sensitive’, ‘thought-provoking, an occasion to remember’ and ‘a triumph’.
“When we started Edington Arts ten years ago, we never imagined we would be celebrating ten years of concerts.
“We’ve survived lockdown, recession, inflation, and bad weather with the help and support of a huge number of friends, volunteers and a board who have given of their time and considerable expertise unstintingly; musicians who have been so enthusiastic about what we have been trying to do; and importantly, a loyal and expanding audience.
“Our plans and ambitions continue to develop and we have exciting ideas for the next ten years. Watch this space!”
