The Edington Charity May Ball celebrated its 14th anniversary on Saturday 27th May and raised £5,600 in the process.
The event, which is organised and run by villagers has now raised over £50,000 across the years all of which has gone to either local or national charities – principally the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group.
This year the profits from the ball will be divided equally between Bath Cancer Unit, the Felix Fund (a military charity for members of the services, the Met Police Counter Terrorism Unit SO15 and their families) and local Edington village causes.
MC and auctioneer Verity Bartlett auctioned a total of 15 lots all of which were donated by local businesses and individuals while soldiers from the Royal Welch Regiment worked hard to try to beat the sales record of £1,000 on the raffle – in the end falling just a few pounds short but they say they’ll be back next year more determined than ever.
Paul Millard, a member of the organising committee, said, “It was another fantastic evening, we sat 150 people down to a marvellous dinner provided by the Three Daggers, we had two live bands, a raffle, the auction and a disco. All in all, a brilliant night for the village of Edington and we managed to raise several thousand pounds for charity. We are delighted at the result and so grateful for the loyal support we get from so many people and businesses.”
