A WESTBURY businessman has raised over £13,500 for the Alzheimer’s Society at a Great Gatsby themed ball earlier this month, after his granddad was diagnosed with the condition recently.
GripIt Fixings, founded and run by Westbury man Jordan Daykin, hosted a charity ball on the 5th of November in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
The ball managed to raise over £13,500 for the charity, which funds care and research into dementia. Jordan’s granddad and Westbury resident, Stan, who helped his grandson invent a plasterboard fixing which has grown into a multi-million pound business, was diagnosed with the condition earlier this year.
21 year-old Jordan says, “The evening was a great success and I can’t believe how much money was raised on the evening. I would personally like to thank everyone who came as the evening wouldn’t have been the same without you there.
“The cause is something that’s very close to me and my family, due to my granddad Stan recently being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Therefore knowing that my family, friends and work colleagues can raise such a great amount gives me great pleasure in hosting events like this.”
The event was sponsored by Arburg and Piovan, and money was raised by donations, sponsors, a live auction and a small raffle.
GripIt presented the cheque to Ali Styles, a member of the Alzheimer’s Society’s south-west team.
A 40-inch television which was won in the raffle was donated back to the charity and will go into a day centre in Salisbury.
