A LOCAL plumber came to the rescue of a neighbour in distress, when her family reunion was interrupted by a burst hot water pipe.
Westbury local, Alison Garside, was entertaining her sister and niece from Glasgow when they heard a noise in the kitchen and discovered a hot water pipe had burst under the sink, causing water and steam to fill the room.
Unable to stop the flow of water, Alison faced a race against time to prevent serious damage to her kitchen.
Luckily, neighbour and owner of GMC Plumbing, Gary McCabe, was at home that day and was more than happy to help.
“It was a Sunday evening, but he came immediately,” said Alison.
“He fixed the problem in about 10 minutes, replacing the pipe and also making sure that the plug socket that had got wet was safe to use.
“He wouldn’t take any money for his time.
“I am extremely grateful for his help. I don’t know what we would have done without him. He was wonderful.”
For modest Gary, the rescue mission was no trouble at all. “She was a lovely person and it didn’t take long to do.
“It was nice to help out and it felt like the neighbourly thing to do.
“Sometimes you need to ‘pay it forward.’”
