Children of all ages will be in for a treat when the festival stages its very own free family fun show at the Leigh Park community centre.
Sponsored by Elkins Ford, the show will be an afternoon of traditional variety from magic tricks to a ventriloquist.
Old and young will also enjoy one of the festival’s other popular events – a ceilidh at the Laverton with dancing, music and bar. Led by experienced caller Valerie, the six-piece Pilgarlic Band has played throughout England for folk dances, barn dances and ceilidhs – so it promises to be an evening of energetic musical mayhem for all the family.
On Saturday 3rd of October there are three family events to attract both adults and children including the popular djembe drumming workshop – a sell-out at last year’s festival. Costing just £1, the morning session hosted by All Instruments at the Laverton, will have complete beginners belting out a rhythm in less than two hours.
Also in the Laverton on the same day (Saturday 3rd October) and time is a harmonica workshop with bluesmaster Nigel Ricketts taking us through the basics of playing a blues harmonica – you even get to keep your very own harmonica as part of the price!
Hands on fun will be on offer for families after lunch, when the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust helps everyone make a community wall hanging reusing things that would normally be thrown away. The event is part of a long term project to raise recycling rates in the Westbury community. And the schools themselves are getting in on the act with a ‘round the world’ creative Arts Extravaganza at Matravers on Wednesday 7th from 4pm.
