TO mark the end of Dementia Week, staff from Watersmead in Westbury, part of The Order of St. John Care Trust, took part in a 7.5 mile sponsored canal walk, raising £400 for Alzheimers Support.
The home manager, Annette Ayles, along with head housekeeper, Jackie Ayliffe, and Trudy Winterburn, administation assistant, wanted to raise money and awareness for the charity.
Trudy said, “It was absolutely exausting, I am not a walker so it was hard. Plus it was such a warm day so that made it difficult.
“But it was a great day and it was nice to know that we were doing it for such a worthy cause.
“We started at the Tithe Barn in Bradford on Avon and had roughly five stops along the way. We stopped at The Somerset Arms in Semington and there was an Elvis impersonator there, which was entertaining.
“We plan to do it every year and raise money for various charities.
“Everyone has been so supportive. It is tight times at the moment so we really appreciate people donating.”
