Film to feature Westbury White Horse artist

WESTBURY Heritage Society is celebrating the White Horse’s new coat with a spotlight on the artist who painted its most iconic image.

Celebrated artist Eric Ravilious is the subject of a film being shown at the Laverton on Friday 18th August at 7pm. Proceeds from the special event will help raise funds for the town’s museum.

The film, Drawn to War, produced by Foxtrot Films and featuring Alan Bennett and Grayson Perry, has won rave reviews. It traces the work of artist Eric Ravilious, who painted his iconic images of the Westbury White Horse and views of Wiltshire landscapes.

Ravilious was a British painter, designer, book illustrator and wood-engraver, particularly known for his watercolours of English landscape. He served as a war artist and was the first British war artist to die on active service in World War II when the aircraft he was in was lost off Iceland.

Tickets for the film cost £7 and can be bought on the door. There will be a limited bar. Any profits from the event will go to Westbury Museum to help pay for new exhibitions highlighting our town’s history.
