The Westbury Family History group are delighted to welcome Myko Clelland from the genealogical company Find My Past on Thursday 26th November.
Nyko is on a nation wide road show to speak about the 1939 Register release that took place at the beginning of the month and this meeting is the only one in this area this year.
The 1939 Register is a fantastic resource for family history and social history research as it is the only surviving record of the population between 1921 and 1951. This is because the 1931 census was destroyed and one was not taken in 1941.
The register was taken on 29th September 1939 by the British Government and recorded personal details of individuals in order to issue identity cards and ration books. It later formed the basis of the National Health Service’s records.
The Westbury Family History Group meets every 4th Thursday of the month at 7.15pm in the foyer of Westbury’s Methodist Church. The branch has regular interesting and informative talks and discussions by members and guest speakers on all aspects of family history and general history.
