WESTBURY Area Network (WAN), the team behind the town’s food bank, are asking people to consider donating toys and small gifts for especially vulnerable families in the Westbury community.
WAN members also say that they have been thrilled with the donations received to date for their Christmas appeal, particularly from local businesses and community groups.
WAN trustee Caroline Coker says, “In addition to our deliveries of Christmas parcels from the food bank, we hope to deliver Christmas gifts and toys to families in receipt of our support. It would be enormously appreciated if people could donate new, unopened toys for children and small gifts for their parents/carers.
“Toys will be given to children of all ages, not just little tots, so donations for older children and even teens are very welcome. Gifts for parents and adult carers can include sweet treats, winter woollies and gift sets, but please no alcohol.”
Donations can be dropped off at Westbury Community Project on Wednesday 14th December and Friday 16th December between 9am and 12.30pm.
Christmas opening times for the foodbank
Over the festive season, the food bank at the Westbury Community Project on Eden Vale Road, will be open on Monday 19th December and Thursday 22nd December from 10am to 12pm, with food parcel collection available from 11am.
Additionally, the foodbank will be open on Christmas Eve for collection of Christmas food parcels from 7pm.
On Christmas Eve from 7.30pm, any surplus fresh produce – after the Christmas food parcels have been packed up – will be made available to the general public to stop it going to landfill. Please note there are no guarantees as to what will be available, but anyone is welcome to come along.
The food bank will be closed on Boxing Day and will re-open on Thursday 29th December, with opening hours returning to normal.
