A NEW half marathon event will be held in Edington this December, and local runners are being encouraged to take on the challenge and start training for the event now.
Avon Valley Runners are launching the AVR Wiltshire Half Marathon, which will start and finish in Station Yard, Edington, while taking in a picturesque course through the villages of Steeple Ashton and Great Hinton.
Linda Ladner, of Avon Valley Runners explained, “We knew the Chippenham half marathon wasn’t being run this year, and we thought it would be nice to have a local race. There’s not really much around, and it’s such a lovely area. It’s a road race, we’ve tried out a few different routes to see what would fit best and it’s relatively flat, there’s no huge hills.”
The event will fundraise for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Organisers are welcoming both experienced runners and new runners to take on the challenge and support the half marathon, which is limited to 350 places. The AVR Wiltshire Half Marathon will be held on Sunday 9th December, starting at 11.00am. More information and entry forms are available from www.avrwiltshirehalfmarathon.org
