WOULD you like to be involved in this year’s Westbury Festival? Do you have ideas or suggestions for the programme of events? Then go along to the festival’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 31st January at the Laverton from 7pm.
The festival committee extends an invitation to those interested in becoming a member of the committee, a volunteer or those who want to share ideas.
Committee member Ward Jones said, “We are always looking for more members – especially a treasurer – as well as volunteers. We need 10-12 people to make the festival a success. Last year was a bit of a struggle because we were low on numbers, so it would be great to have a strong committee for this year’s festival.
“After the AGM meeting, from 7.30pm, we are holding a meeting to discuss ideas and planning. We would welcome members of the public to come along and help generate fresh and exciting ideas for the festival. There’s no obligation to join the committee, it’s just a chance to put forward any ideas or thoughts you may have.”
At a recent Westbury Town Council meeting, councillors agreed to transfer £2,000 to the festival to be used to pay for the use of the Laverton and its services. Councillor Mike Sutton said, “The Westbury Festival puts the town on the map and I think it’s important that we look after its future. In the long-term, I believe a lot more should be considered but for the time being, we can show our support and approve the grant.”
Chair of the Festival, Ian Cunningham said, “We are delighted to receive support from Westbury Town Council in the form of free use of the Laverton – which is one of our favourite Westbury venues. The council were very supportive and appreciative of the festival for which we are very grateful.”
