WESTBURY Quilters have raised over £1,500 for Julia’s House, the local children’s hospice, through two coffee mornings and donations collected during their monthly meetings.
The funds were presented during the group’s annual general meeting (AGM) and will support vital services provided by the hospice, which cares for seriously ill children and their families.
The Julia’s House fundraising organiser for Wiltshire, Claudia, explained that the money could provide a full week of respite care for a seriously ill child, giving the family a much-needed break from 24-hour care. It could also fund sessions with expert counsellors or therapists to help children or family members manage emotional pressures and challenges.
She added, “We are currently caring for many families in Wiltshire, and with only 4% of our budget coming from the government, we need to raise £4 million annually to continue our work.”
Reflecting on their contribution, the group said, “We are so pleased to be able to help, even if only in a small way.”
The latest coffee morning, held last month at Westbury Methodist Church, featured stalls selling homemade goods, gifts and books, as well as a raffle.
Treasurer Maureen Woollard said, “We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who supported our coffee morning, whether you helped behind the scenes, served coffee, assisted with the raffle or sales tables, or simply came to drink coffee, eat cake and chat. We are very grateful for your support.”
Westbury Quilters meet on the last Tuesday of each month from 1pm to 4pm at Heywood and Hawkeridge Village Hall.
“We are a friendly group and always welcome new members,” said Maureen. “Whether you are a novice or an experienced quilter, there is always someone willing to help.”
