RUNNERS from near and far are gearing up for the 18th Bratton Happy Valley Hilly Run this Saturday, 10th May.
Participants may enter the run on the day, while spectators are welcome to go along and watch.
The 11.4km course starts at the Jubilee Hall in the village and covers challenging hilly terrain, particularly with an early climb up to the White Horse. However, runners are rewarded with picturesque views of the countryside.
The run has always been a key event in Bratton’s annual calendar. It was founded by the late Roger Broberg to raise money for the school, and this year the organisers will be giving a donation to the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
Simon Reeves, one of the organisers said, “There’s always a big turn out with many people taking part in the run as well as lots of spectators cheering them on. The whole village comes out and gets involved including the local pub, where many of the competitors go after their run, and the local school.”
This year, The Duke at Bratton will be holding a hog roast and mini beer festival to coincide with the hilly run.
Year 5 and 6 pupils at Bratton Primary School will be running a mini race at 10.00am along with the school’s running club, whilst the Friends of Bratton Primary School (FOBS) will be providing refreshments (cakes and ice lollies) in the Pavilion. Also in the Pavilion there will be a tabl e top sale from 10am-12noon on the Village Green. Tables are £5 each. Please contact katherine.laing@btinternet.com to book a table.
The race attracts runners from clubs around the country, including Leicester, London, and Gillingham.
The run is organised by the Bratton Jubilee Hall management committee and is open to runners over 16. Entires can be downloaded from the website, www.brattonjubilee hall. org.uk and should be returned by post, but entries are also accepted on the day.
Registration starts at 9am and the race starts at 11am.
