Do you want to change Westbury for the better, but aren’t sure how to get started? A new ‘Open Westbury’ event, which will take place next month, aims to bring the town together and look at ways to help the town thrive.
Open Westbury will host a talk from Hazel Stuteley OBE, chair of the C2 National Network of Connected Communities (C2NN) on Thursday 27th February. Hazel led a transformational community project in Falmouth, which saw a struggling community completely change their area through resident-led action.
Speaking alongside Hazel at The Laverton will be Grenville Chappel, a former refrigerator technician who became the Mayor of Falmouth. This year, the Queen awarded Grenville with a BEM for his service to community work. All this came from a decision years ago that it was time to make a change to his local community.
Hazel Stuteley said, “I’m so excited to be visiting Westbury and sharing some of the simple, but effective things that have made huge changes to communities around the UK.”
Organisers say, “Guests will also get to see some of the great work POPCAN (Penleigh and Oldfield Community Action Network) is already doing in Westbury, including the removal of a shelter that led to an instant reduction in anti-social behaviour that was affecting the area.
“Open Westbury is a loose name for three initial events that will focus on empowering all residents to improve the town together.”
