DID you know that you can help stop excess food waste as well as pick up free food from Westbury’s Community Fridge?
The Community Fridge, located at Crosspoint in Westbury’s Market Place, is an initiative to help stop excess food waste created by businesses, with companies donating surplus food for people to come and take for free.
Currently, the fridge works with Westbury Lidl store who regularly donates fresh vegetables and fruit. No matter what situation you are in personally or financially – the food is there for all to take to help limit food waste and protect the environment.
Westbury’s community fridge is the first of its kind to open in Wiltshire and was made possible by Westbury Town Council, the Waste Education Team at Wiltshire Wildlife Trust (funded by Wiltshire Council) and Crosspoint, plus a dedicated team of volunteers who keep the fridge stocked and clean.
The fridge is open each week, Monday and Wednesday from 2.30pm to 5pm and Thursday and Saturday from 10am-12.30pm. It will be a lucky dip as to what’s available in the fridge, depending on what surplus food has been donated by local food businesses.
There is hope that more businesses will get involved to save more food waste from going to landfill.
If you are a local business interested in donating food, or someone who would like to help volunteer, contact Kieran at Westbury Town Council on info@westbury towncouncil.gov.uk or 01373 822232.
