Sat. 25th June. West of England League Wiltshire Division Biddestone 283 for 4 wickets off 50 overs. Westbury 159 all out off 44.4 overs Biddestone won by 124 runs
WESTBURY and District Cricket Club travelled to play high flying Biddestone, who are making their statement in the latest West of England League, as they want to bounce straight back up to the Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Division.
Westbury made four changes from the abandoned home match against Potterne, with Michael Cooper, Dylan Hulett, Henry White and James Clack coming in for Daniel Gill, Steve Clare, James Dark and Marcus Telford.
Biddestone won the toss and immediately decided to bat first on a hot day.
Biddestone opened with Geoff Prudhoe and Isma Galfieldhun and at the beginning they had to deal with some fine bowling by the experienced Westbury bowlers Richard Oakley and Andy Carroll.
The first 50 came up in 54 minutes off 84 balls, after which they continued to score quickly. They eventually took the total to 190, when Westbury struck for the first time when Galfieldhun was caught by Dylan Hulett.
When the score was on 219, Isitt was bowled by the young Henry White for 4. Charlie Quarrell was then joined at the crease by Pavraj Lochab and they took the total to 249, when Quarrell was dismissed leg before for a rapid 25 off 35 balls. It was then left to Lochab (who re-joined the club from a spell at Calne) and Liam Boulton to take Biddestone to a massive score of 283 for 4 wickets off their allotted 50 overs.
Henry White had his best figures (5-0-45-3) in the first team, ably supported by Andy Carroll (10-0-41-1).
When Westbury batted, they lost half their side for 102, with Dylan Hulett at the crease until he was dismissed with the total at 133, caught brilliantly by Galfieldhun off the bowling of the Biddestone off spinner, Liam Boulton. With his dismissal, the Westbury innings subsided to 159 all out off 44.4 overs, leaving the home side winners by 124 runs.
This was a chastening experience for Westbury especially after the last two weeks, but with defeats for fellow struggles Corsham and Devizes, the league positions remain unchanged.
Team: Chris Thompson, James Clack, Michael Cooper, Dylan Hulett, Kane Scott, Aiden Wicks (wkt), Luke Dilena, Faizal Faizey, Andy Carroll, Richard Oakley (capt), Henry White.
