THE Holy Trinity Church in Dilton Marsh is seeking £5,000 in funding to upgrade the projector and sound system in a bid to modernise their current facilities.
The total cost of work to the church could rise to £15,000 and Holy Trinity have applied for a £5,000 grant at a meeting of the Westbury Area Board of Wiltshire Council on the 15th November.
No member from the church was available to discuss the points raised by councillors, so the decision was deferred until questions can be answered by the applicant.
Councillors still discussed the grant application however, with cllr Suzanne Wickham, chair of the Westbury area board, asking if any other local groups would make use of the proposed facilities as the board are “not allowed to fund religious groups on their own”.
Cllr Gordon King said that the church is opening up to the wider community in the future as they will be hosting events for Westbury festival, Dilton Marsh festival and the Dilton Marsh history group.
Cllr Mathew Dean supported the move to defer the decision to allocate the money, until a member from the church could be present to answer the board’s questions. He also added that if they did not show up again, he would be voting against the decision.
The board since decided to postpone the decision until a member of Holy Trinity could become available to talk through the questions.
