The popular Donkey Derby returned this month with hundreds of people gathering at White Horse Country Park for a day of family entertainment.
Organised by Westbury Lions Club, the event on 14th June featured donkey races, rides, fairground attractions, stalls and activities for children throughout the day.
For the first time, entry to the event was free. Lions president Angie Fawcett said the turnout was ‘absolutely fantastic.’
She said, “We spend a lot of time and effort putting this amazing day together for the community. It is just so lovely to see so many families from Westbury enjoying a free day out.”
All funds raised will be donated to local causes. Angie said the money supports a range of projects across the town.
“From the money we raise we donate every month to the food bank, we give to individuals who apply for grants and we put a lot of effort into supporting schools,” Angie added.
“What we do is support local causes and every penny we raise goes back to Westbury, which is why we do it.”
This year’s Donkey Derby champion was Leo Thomas, riding Dangerous Dave. He said,
“It is really fun and I really like it. Last year the donkey did not go as fast but this year it went really fast.”
