FAIRFIELD College welcomed two Paralympic athletes to the college this month to help celebrate two days full of fun, sport and colour.
For the college’s sports day on Tuesday 4th July, the students were joined by Paralympian David Hill.
Admission and communication manager Helen Beer said, “Students enjoyed a range of activities for sports day. There was much fun and laughter all around the site, with great participation, support for each other and team-work too.”
Activities on offer at the sports day included Tae-kwon-do, an inflatable course, cricket, cheer-leading and indo-boarding. The day ended with a football match, pitching the students against the staff of the college.
The following week, Paralympian Kate Grey took part in the college’s Rainbow Shower event that saw the students showered with coloured powder.
Principal of Fairfield Farm College, Tina Paget said, “Rachel Bown, with the support of The Youth Sport Trust and Lavington School, hosted an amazing Rainbow Shower with over 200 children and young people with additional needs in Wiltshire. Over 30 sports leaders including trained leaders from Fairfield helped to run the event, which was also supported by Paralympian Kate Grey. What a fantastic event!”
The event was the brainchild of PE coordinator and inclusion lead Rachel Bown who started planning the day a few months ago. Reflecting on the day Rachel said, “At one point I took a step back and watched ‘my vision’. I had goose bumps and very nearly shed a tear. My team and I were creating very colourful, meaningful memories and I am incredibly proud of that.”
