Local MP Dr Andrew Murrison has written to the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Michael Gove, to ask why the application to build an incinerator in Westbury was given approval on appeal while an application for a waste burner in Consett, County Durham was rejected despite both having similar grounds for rejection.
The MP said, “Great news for Consett and County Durham but why not Westbury and Wiltshire? I will not rest until Northacre Renewable Energy and its investors decide the money costs and regulatory risks are just too great for any conceivable return, pack up and go away. That’ll be a great day for Westbury and a great day for responsibly reducing, reusing and recycling waste.”
Andrew Murrison is also lobbying hard with ministers and advisers to get a moratorium on more burners and an incineration tax to promote responsible waste management.
