THE Mead Nursery is now open for the 2012 season, and this year is particularly special as the nursery celebrates its 20th anniversary. Steve and Emma Lewis-Dale started the Mead Nursery at Brokerswood (opposite the Kicking Donkey pub), and it has developed from small beginnings into an established plant nursery. The nursery boasts an attractive garden laid out to display the wide array of interesting and unusual herbaceous perennials, alpines, grasses and bulbs that they grow and sell on site. The nursery has become well-known locally for their twice-yearly open days, raising money for worthy causes. This year, the first open day is on Sunday 1st April from 12noon to 5pm in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Wessex Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre in Warminster. Steve and Emma say, “There will be a select but varied range of enticing guest stalls, a tombola and a therapeutic game for gardeners, ‘Slug the slug!’ Last but not least, the very popular tea tent will be serving hot drinks and homemade cakes all afternoon. Entry is free.” Steve and Emma say they put a lot of the success of the nursery down to the incredible hard work of their treasured and knowledgeable staff and the loyal support of their customers, many of whom have been coming since the early days. They say, “Come and enjoy the unique atmosphere of this working nursery. Visit us through the seasons to see how the garden changes. “If you love plants, you will love The Mead!” The nursery is open from now until the middle of October, Wednesdays to Saturdays (and Bank Holiday Mondays) 9am to 5pm; and Sundays 12 noon to 5pm.
