The Inner Wheel Charity Fashion Show by Roman Originals held at The Laverton, Westbury, on Friday 27th April, was enjoyed by all.
Westbury Inner Wheel reports, “The range of clothing modelled by the staff of Roman Originals in Trowbridge was much admired.
“The evening was a great success and we would like to thank everyone who came along for their support. The sum of £600 has been given to RICE (The Research Institute for the Care of the Elderly) concentrating on dementia research, care and support, which is based at The Royal United Hospital in Bath and serves the whole of Wiltshire.
“It was after the club had decided to raise money for RICE, that our club secretary, Linda Eaglesham, informed members that back in 1983 she was part of the original team of three led by Professor Alan Dixon, with herself as the nurse plus a secretary, to set up a unit for research for the care of the elderly (RICE). The unit, based in an old ward at St Martin’s Hospital started in November 1983 and the first trial undertaken was on arthritic knees.
“The picture shows Linda with the Duchess of Kent at the official opening of the unit in 1986. A memory clinic was started there in 1987, with a clinical trial that showed some positive results. Linda remained there until 1988 when it was still at St Martin’s Hospital, and later a purpose-built unit was built on the Royal United Hospital site, where it is today. “
