Two enthusiastic golfers are taking their hobby to extremes for charity.
Gary King and Jez Blake, who both work at Erlestoke Golf Club, are doing a 24 hour golf marathon to raise money for Help for Heroes and Dorothy House Hospice Care.
To make the challenge even tougher, the pair have decided that they will not use trolleys or buggies, but instead carry all of their equipment themselves!
“We wanted to do something for charity,” said Gary. “When we came up with the idea we thought it was silly, but when we thought about it more we decided it could actually work. The charities we’re supporting are the club captain’s charities.”
“I found out about a man in America who did it, but we can’t find anyone else who’s done anything like it – it’s not in the Guinness Book of Records so it’s a bit of a first!”
The challenge will take place on Monday 26th April. “We’ll start at 12.00 midday, and then play continuously,” said Gary. “A lot of people have been asking us how we’re going to play through the night – we do have special balls that flash for playing overnight.”
The pair have set themselves the target of raising £2,500, and are well on the way, having already reached £1,500.
“We’ve had a lot of support from the golf club, and from friends and family and members of the community” said Gary. Various members of the club will also show their support by joining the pair along the way.
