WESTBURY has been doing its bit for Children in Need.
Schools, individuals and small businesses across the town used various events and ideas to raise money for the BBC’s annual appeal on Friday 19th November and in the days before.
The appeal, which raised over £18million, helps to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children.
Schoolchildren in Chapmanslade were delighted when Pudsey bear himself turned up at their Friday morning assembly to thank them for their fundraising efforts. Children at the school had been busy making Pudsey biscuits, singing special Pudsey songs, and donated money to the appeal to come to school in their own clothes.
A brave group of men at Dynamik Bodyz came forward to have their legs waxed for the appeal. The gym says, “A big thank you to all the brave men who attended the gym on Friday to get waxed. Also, a thank you to everyone who donated money to the fund.”
Westbury Protyre has also been supporting Children in Need by donating £1 from every car tyre purchased online from www. protyre.co.uk to the appeal in days leading up to the event. Nick Pickin, Manager of Westbury Protyre, which is located on Station Road in Westbury, said: “We are very happy to be involved in supporting Children in Need, which helps so many under privileged children throughout the world.
“November is a peak time for purchasing new tyres as the winter months approach and motorists are concerned about having adequate tyres for the snow and ice.”
The company estimated that around 1,000 tyres would be purchased from its website in this time.
