THE Westbury ‘Person of the Year 2011’ competition is now open, and it’s time for you to make your nominations.
The competition, run by the White Horse News, will recognise a resident who has made a real contribution to the community in 2011.
Westbury has many individuals who work hard throughout the year to help other people, improve their town, and raise money for charity. Perhaps your nominee has shown outstanding acts of bravery, or offered voluntary services which have benefitted the local community.
People are now being asked to put forward their Person of the Year 2011 nominations. The only conditions are that the person is from Westbury or one of the surrounding villages or works in the town; and that the person has not previously won this award.
Westbury’s Person of the Year 2010 went to funeral director, Arthur Mays, in recognition of some 60 years of kindness, thoughtfulness, and help for clients who are going through a difficult time. The previous year, the award went to Henry Leigh, founder of the Belarussian Ray of Hope, a charity that works to alleviate the suffering of disabled children in areas affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
How to make your
nomination
Ian Drew, editor of White Horse News said, “This is a chance to nominate someone who deserves recognition for their outstanding actions to Westbury over the past year or who has had the biggest impact on life in the town.”
Nominations can be made by filling out the form inside this week’s newspaper and returning it to the White Horse News office at 31 Market Place, Melksham, Wilts. SN12 6ES; or to the Visitor Centre in Westbury High Street. Or email your nominations to whitehorsenews@btconnect. com stating your name, address and contact number with your nominee’s name and why you are nominating them. (We won’t disclose who has made the nominations).
Nominations must be received by 5.00pm on Thursday 12th January.
