THE planning application for a temporary wind mast has been approved, the first step towards the proposed construction of the Grange Farm Wind Farm on Bratton Road, West Ashton.
The 16m anemometry mast will be used to measure wind conditions, gathering data to ascertain if the site is viable for a proposed wind farm. The plans by REG Windpower would create the first operational wind farm in Wiltshire, which could house three turbines with a height of up to 130metres and produce enough electricity to power approximately 3,500 households. After 25 years, the company say that the wind farm would be decommissioned and the land returned to its former appearance.
REG Windpower plan to construct the mast in the coming months. They anticipate a planning application for the wind farm will follow in the summer or autumn.
Exhibitions were held in West Ashton and Bratton in November last year to give residents a chance to find out more about the plans. Over 300 people attended and were able to speak to members of the project team, view exhibition materials, and leave their comments.
While feedback is still coming in, the feedback from 110 questionnaires has been collated. REG Windpower report that 57% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that they supported the proposed the wind farm; 32% disagreed or strongly disagreed; and 11% remained undecided.
