CYCLING from London to Paris, a distance of around 300 miles, is no mean achievement for Ironworx Gymnasium co-owner Lee Salter.
Lee used the challenge to raise funds for Josselin Tilley, the Westbury girl who was born with CHARGE syndrome, affecting her hearing, sight, eating, drinking, breathing, and development.; as well as Wiltshire’s Charlie’s Charity – London Paralympian Shaun Sewell, Wiltshire Air Ambulance and the Tessa Sanderson Foundation & Academy.
Lee was riding with Bag4Sport and, after initially being approached to help with providing kit and training, he ended up signing up for the challenge himself!
Lee said, “It was really good, we had decent weather the whole cycle which was great – if it had been windy and raining it would have been a lot harder. I’d not really done anything like this before to be fair – in terms of cycling I’d trained a fair bit but the biggest thing was the amount of time spent on the seat!
“Towards the end of the ride we dropped down out of a forest and we could see the Eiffel Tower, and that was really good. As soon as we got there we had a few pictures, then found a place to have a well deserved pint – although the price was rather steep…17.5euros! Good job it was happy hour!”
Westbury Strongman Competition
Lee is continuing his fundraising with a Strongman Competition, which will be held on Saturday 3rd September at the gym from 10.00am-5.00pm. Lee explained, “It’s an all-day event, we’ve got three weight categories, six events and the competition includes challenges like pulling a lorry and 170kg tractor tyre flipping! The day promises to be a great spectacle for everyone, there will also be a licensed bar and barbecue available. Please come down to show your support for a super annual event.”
