LOCAL roofer and all-round maintenance man, Ian Sanders, was set the challenge to restore The Old Town Hall clock and has now returned a refurbished, fully working clock face to the historic building.
The new owners of The Old Town Hall, Salima and Yavuz Parmak, contracted Ian and fellow maintenance worker Toby, who each have their own businesses – Ian Sanders Roofing and Maintenance and TN Maintenance – to get the Town Hall back to its former glory.
Ian, with help from his wife Sarah, Lewis Fryer and Phillip Hooper, wanted to take out the old Town Hall clock, which was covered in washed out, flaking paint, and restore it. He has now returned the historic clock to the building in fully working order.
Ian fixed the mechanism and got the clock working again and also stripped and painted the hands. Sarah stripped the face of the flaking black paint. Lewis Fryer then took over with the gloss black paint job and finally Phillip Hooper was in charge of reinstating the golden Roman numerals and assorted decals.
Ian told White Horse News, “The town hall is finished for now, with the scaffolding removed. The clock is restored and working, all roofing leadwork has been replaced and all facia and soffit boards have been heat stripped, primed, undercoated and triple painted!”
Work is still on-going on two cottages on West End that Ian is also restoring back to their original design.
