Wiltshire’s Big Pledge is back for 2017 and this year’s free challenge, which encourages people of all ages to get more active, has a World Athletics Championships theme.
Wiltshire’s Big Pledge: London Calling is celebrating the World Athletics Championships coming to London for the first time this summer, with a series of challenges to help encourage individuals and teams of all ages and abilities to get active, get out and have fun.
The challenge starts on 5th June and runs right through to 30th July. People can now sign up to take part in the event and doing it as early as possible will increase their chances of achieving their goals and feeling and seeing the benefits of participating.
Westbury’s community engagement manager, Liam Cripps said, “The #BigPledge is a community challenge designed to get people moving with a bit of friendly competition thrown in. Last year Westbury finished 2nd across Wiltshire only missing out to Melksham – surely we can go one better this year!
“I have created TeamWestbury for all of our community to join, simply follow the sign up process here and get involved www.wiltshire. gov.uk/bigpledge Of course you can enter as an individual or as part of a club or group you are already involved with.
“This year, the Big Pledge is about completing set distances to collect the flags of the 30 countries who will be taking part in the World Athletics Championships. Collect 10 countries for Bronze, collect 20 countries for Silver and all 30 countries to reach Gold and be entered in to a prize draw for your chance to win a Fitbit.
“There is a challenge for everyone from beginners to athletics clubs and from swimmers to cyclists so we hope to see lots of individuals and clubs sign up to join in the fun. So please sign up yourself, your football team, rugby team, cycling club, swimming club, walking group, school, community group.
“Registering is easy and all online, a secure portal allows you to enter your distances each day or week as you complete your activities and see how far you progress. Cumulative distances for community areas will be logged for a bit of extra competition across Wiltshire.
“Log your steps, your runs, your swims, cycles and exercise classes to help the Westbury community area reach that 1st place spot.”
