THE Royal British Legion Westbury branch has announced a crucial meeting next month to discuss the future of the group, with member, Eddie Bridges, pleading to members to attend.
The branch has operated in the town during two phases. It was first formed in 1921 at the inception of the Royal British Legion, but unfortunately closed in 1963. It was then reformed in 1981 and is still in existence today.
Recently, it has been experiencing membership issues, with older members concerned about the future of the branch.
Member, Eddie Bridges said, “The Royal British Legion Westbury branch is currently in a state of flux and its future uncertain.
“A meeting has been arranged with four members of the county committee attending in the hope of giving the branch, hopefully, a stable future. To do this, it is hoped that members and interested parties will be able to attend to learn how the branch’s life will move on.
“It is fully understood that most members have family and employment commitments which will take priority. Unfortunately, the members who have previously taken a lead in organising events, now wish to stand down or have private issues of their own and cannot continue. Therefore, as a committed member, I am making this heartfelt plea to all of our registered members to attend this special meeting to have an input into our future.”
The meeting will take place on Wednesday 10th April at 8pm at the Horse and Groom on Alfred Street.
