Delicious aromas filled Dilton Marsh Memorial Hall as members arrived for their October meeting.
The effervescent Wafaa Powell (together with her delightful mother-in-law) was preparing for her demonstration of Lebanese food.
As an introduction, Wafaa spoke of life in her home country of Lebanon, illustrated with colourful pictures of the Mediterranean which surrounds it, and the lush green countryside due to the heavy rainfall. The rich soil provides vegetables, fruits and nuts which are very much an important part of the Lebanese diet. Spices are added to dishes but without heat only taste. Semolina and orange water are often used for puddings along with the famous baklava with lots of nuts.
The dish chosen on this evening was a salad with couscous. Included was the delicious dressing of olive oil, garlic, lemon juice and yoghurt. Having completed her demonstration members were treated to mouth-watering bowls of dressed salad. President Paula Carr welcomed visitors Jean, Lyn, Marian, Linda, Beth and Evelyn, and reminded members of the October Council Meeting. The hostelry for the Christmas celebration dinner was also confirmed. Next month’s meeting on Thursday 13th November is ‘A Passion for Pearls’ introduced by Frances Benton. Do join us and make new friends.
