WESTBURY Town Council was ‘incredibly pleased’ to receive positive feedback about the new Wednesday market.
Cllr Michael Amos, the council’s events working group chair, said, “We are incredibly pleased with the positive feedback received from Westbury residents regarding our Westbury summer markets.
“Letters have been sent to the clerk, social media is a buzz and over the past three weeks several councillors and our events manager Ryan have spent time down at the markets speaking with Westbury residents who have been overwhelmingly supportive.
“Many stall holders have already had repeat business – not bad for the third week of a new market! The Westbury summer markets have been a goal for a couple of years and now that the restrictions have lifted somewhat it’s great that the green light could be given.
“The range and quality of stall holders that we have been able to attract and the wonderful goods and produce on offer have enticed loads of people and the next step now is looking at how we can expand beyond the initial six weeks and make the markets even bigger and better.”
Town clerk Deborah Urch shared a letter on the council’s website with the message, “[We] received this lovely letter which we wanted to share and say thank you to everyone that has been supporting the market and out local shops.”
The note said, “What a lovely surprise, to find the little market in Westbury.
“May it flourish and continue, bringing a breath of new life into the area. I’m sure the local shops and cafes must benefit from it, in the long run.”
The market takes place from 8am to 2pm in the high street every Wednesday. to welcome people back to the town centre following lockdown and help bolster local shops and businesses.
Stalls sell fresh fruit and vegetables, olives, organic cosmetics, Westbury Shed wares, sweets and treats. Cakes and brownies, preserves and chutneys and bathroom smellies are also available, and live music is also played through the lunchtime hours.
