Matravers School is celebrating the successes of their Year 13 students who have risen to the challenge of their post-16 studies and become the school’s most successful year group, despite being significantly impacted by COVID.
Director of Post-16 at the school, Ian Browning, said “The students have demonstrated that hard work and determination really do pay off. This was a truly brilliant cohort of students to work with, being positive, caring and fun and we are immensely proud of what they have achieved.
“They have come through all the challenges they have had to face, and they are now moving on to university study and apprenticeships. They thoroughly deserve their successes, and we wish them all the very best for the future”.
Top A level performers included Amber Gates who gained four A* grades and is moving on to read Physics at Worcester College, the University of Oxford. Amber will be joined at Oxford by CJ Button who is going to be reading History. Going on to read Theoretical Physics at Imperial College is Sophie Leonard who gained two A*s and an A grade. RJ Barden secured A*AA and is going to study Engineering at Leeds and Lily Morris is going to read English at Exeter on the back of her A level results of A*AB with an A* in the Extended Project Qualification.
Also going to Exeter is Lily Jones who got AAB with an A in her Extended Project; she will be studying History and will be joined by Michael Mead-Male who secured three B grades. Abi Doughty gained ABC in her A levels and an A* in her EPQ and is moving on to read English at the University of Newcastle.
Also gaining an A* in the EPQ was Holly Rossiter-Hives to go with BBC in her A levels and she is going to study Law at Royal Holloway. Ashleigh Cockram gained three B grades and is moving on to study the Performing Arts.
Students pursuing an apprenticeship route include Adam Marshall who gained ABC in his A levels with an A in an EPQ, and Kacey Styles who is to start an apprenticeship with SSE having successfully navigated four A levels.
Matravers Sixth Form also specialises in a highly successful ‘mixed pathway’ of A-levels and Btecs, which continues to be an area of real strength, allowing students to move on to prestigious and competitive destinations.
Among the successful students this year are Matt Gainey who achieved a Distinction* and Distinction to go with his A-level and is moving on to Officer Training with the British Army. Jayden Gough gained two Distinction*, two C grades and a C in an EPQ and is going to be studying Criminology and Sociology at Bath Spa. Laura Kamberi got a B in A level Greek to go with her two Distinctions and Merit in her Btecs and is moving on to the University of Exeter to study Finance. Lucy Parker will be studying Law with Criminology at Winchester following her Distinction, two C grades and B in an EPQ.
Students studying solely vocational subjects have also excelled, including Kean Hyde who gained a Distinction*, a Distinction and Merit and is going to study Professional Policing at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Alicia Ballard gained two Distinctions and a Merit and is going to Criminology and Law at Bath Spa.
