Matravers School was delighted to welcome Professor Richard Oreffo, Professor of Musculoskeletal Science at the University of Southampton on Friday 9th January.
Professor Richard Oreffo holds the chair of Musculoskeletal Science and is co-founder of the Centre for Human Development, Stem Cells and Regeneration.
During his visit he presented to over 200 Sixth Form and Year 11 students on his career and current research work. Following this there followed a Q&A for students to find out more about the opportunities that the University of Southampton can offer.
Assistant headteacher Ian Browning said, “We are delighted to welcome such an important professor to our school. Our Science provision is excellent and we were glad to be able to enhance this through such a visit. Our students were engaged and inspired throughout as we continue to broaden horizons and expectations.”
Year 13 student Chloe Bleakley said, “I loved it as it gave me a real insight into the world of medical science in which I would like to build my future career.”
This was echoed by Year 12 students Dominic Ogden and JJ Watson, who described Professor Oreffo’s presentation as “Truly inspirational.” JJ added that it was, “Great to receive quality advice from an expert.”
