AFTER much deliberation, this year’s winning Christmas card design and Christmas poem have been chosen by the Mayor and Mayoress of Westbury.
The winners of both competitions will be announced at Westbury’s Street Fayre on Saturday 3rd December, with the winner of the Christmas card competition getting to switch on the Christmas lights. They will also both receive a £25 gift voucher.
Mayor, cllr Stephen Andrews said, “I was very impressed with this year’s entries for the Christmas card competition, it was very difficult to judge.
“The designs are all unique and clearly a lot of effort had been put into designing them. They are all very colourful and eye-catching and a lot of thought has gone into them.
“The winning design was brilliant and really stood out. The attention to detail was marvellous and quite clearly a lot of time was spent on it. It will also easily transfer onto a Christmas card which is something we have to think about when judging.
“The Christmas card competition is very important every year as it gets the children involved. It’s also a great opportunity for the children to show off their talents and there are many very talented children in our town.
“The standard of poems was also very high and again, judging them was incredibly difficult. It was difficult to choose but the winning entries were creative, unique and in particular had a relevance to Westbury.
Verity Bartlett who organised the poetry competition said, “We decided to try something different this year and replaced the model competition with the poem competition. I’m very pleased with the entries, the standard and creativity was very high. We will probably do it again next year and hopefully a lot more children will get involved.”
