THE young players at Bratton Brass Roots will be bringing festive cheer to the airwaves this festive season. The group recently welcomed a visit from BBC Radio Wiltshire to record a special selection of Christmas carols for the station’s Christmas Day broadcast.
The young musicians, who have been rehearsing tirelessly since September, performed around ten carols, including favourites like O Little Town of Bethlehem, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and Jingle Bells.
“It was a really exciting and enjoyable evening,” said Lydia Grace-Hills, the musical director of Bratton Brass Roots – the youth academy of the Bratton Community Brass Bands. “The BBC was with us for the whole rehearsal from 6.30 to 7.45pm, and the children played superbly. We can’t wait to hear the finished product on Christmas Day – while eating our turkey!”
BBC Radio Wiltshire presenter Matthew Smith also took the opportunity to interview some of the young players about their favourite things about Christmas, capturing their holiday spirit on tape.
This recording comes on the heels of Bratton Brass Roots’ growing recognition. Recently, they were featured on BBC Points West and celebrated a Classic FM Award win for “Best Learning Initiative.”
You can tune in to BBC Radio Wiltshire on Christmas Day to enjoy the talented young musicians of Bratton Brass Roots as they spread holiday cheer across the county on 103.6FM.
