WORK has begun on resurfacing the outdoor courts at Matravers School with astro turf to provide an all-year round facility for a wide range of sports for the school and the community.
The arrival of the astro-turf is the start of the next phase of the school’s site master plan, which aims to transform the learning environment over the next 18 months.
About the future of sports at Matravers, headteacher Dr Simon Riding said, “I’m sure you’ll agree that this new facility will not only be a wonderful addition for our school community, but also a wonderful facility for the wider community as well.
“Our vision is to deliver a Sports Village at Matravers and we are on track for this.”
The astro-turf project will take between four and six weeks to complete. The facility will enable the school and the community to provide for a greater range of sports, increasing participation amongst many groups of people.
The outdoor facility will eventually become flood-lit to help support the wider community to use the site all-year round.
The works have been made possible after the school received £1million from Wiltshire Council.
Other improvements being made to the school include the replacement of windows and glazing in the main school building and a three-storey 28 classroom block.
